International Wine Report (Jan. 2021) Review of 2018 Proprietary Red, Paradise Hills Vineyard

Blankiet Estate Proprietary Red

Review by Joe D’Angelo

Rating: (97)

The 2018 Paradise Hills Vineyard Proprietary Red is another stunning release from Blankiet in this vintage. This is an exceptionally made wine, that slowly begins to reveal its gorgeous fresh aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, and plums, which are joined by fresh cut violets, graphite and exotic spices and wet gravel that all take shape in the glass. On the palate, this possesses a full bodied, which is graceful, with wonderful overall definition and beautifully polished tannins that provide excellent structure. This goes on to display tremendous balance and poise, with a gorgeous and finessed mouthfeel before the tannins firmly grip hold on the remarkably long finish. Complex and elegant, this is a stunning age worthy red that will have a sensational future ahead. I expect it will require at least several more years in bottle before it begins to hit its stride.
